The wire spool (10) has a cylindrical body (11) and side panels (12,13). The side panels have rolling rims (2) which are provided with slots (15). A ring type crown (4) which may be rotated about the spool axis fits inside the side panels and rims and has integral sprung elements (3,5) around the periphery. The sprung elements may protrude from the slots to prevent rolling or alternatively be retracted by rotating the crown. Independent claims are also included for the following: A wire spool which has side panels with slots to receive elastic elements. Crown with peripheral elastic anti-roll elements.
