PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optimal communication scheme selection method and a non-contact response apparatus, which can select an optimal communication scheme for a mounted AP (application).;SOLUTION: When a non-contact response apparatus receives a request signal from an interrogating apparatus, a kind of a communication scheme for the request signal is determined from a request command used for conversion of the request signal (ST1-5). Along with repeating of the ST1-5 processing, if the conditions for selection of an optimal communication scheme, such as time lapse of 200 milliseconds from the reception of a first request signal, are satisfied ('Yes' in ST1-8), a higher one in a preference table is selected as the optimal communication scheme, based on the determined kind of a communication scheme (ST1-9). Thereafter, when a request signal according to the selected optimal communication scheme is received ('Yes' in both ST1-10 and ST11), a response signal is issued, according to the selected optimal communication scheme (ST1-12). A characteristic technique is employed for communication with the interrogating apparatus, using one communication scheme among a plurality of kinds of communication schemes.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
