This paper presents a validation of an analytical solution to the electromagnetic (EM) longitudinal and transverse responses of a non-contact EM sensor, applied to conductive materials. In doing so, tests have been carried out on several cylindrical samples, using a cylindrical air cored sensor and impedance measurement system, where the EM properties of materials under investigation have been identified. Experimental results were obtained for a range of samples and their electromagnetic properties have been inferred by fitting finite element models to the measured results. Lastly, analytical methods were carried out to validate the longitudinal and transverse dynamic response of such EM sensors on conductive ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The proposed analytical solutions are theoretically available for the electromagnetic and non-destructive detection applications.
