The method of improving drive stability requires a vehicle with an active steering system (170). An actual value of the yaw rate is determined, which represents an actual yaw motion of the vehicle. First and second target values of the yaw rate are also determined. A third target value of the yaw rate is determined based on the first and second target rates. A steering angle, which is transmitted to the active steering system, is determined in dependence on the third target value. To stabilize the drive behavior of the vehicle, especially to minimize the yaw movement, the derived steering angle is superimposed on the steering angle set by the driver. Independent claims also cover an apparatus for carrying out the method.
