Camshafts angular position determining method for internal combustion engine, involves calculating coefficient from time periods, and finding angular position based on relation between calculated and theoretical coefficients
The method involves performing measurement of time period, four times between passage of two successive edges (7, 8) of a target, and storing the periods. A coefficient is calculated from the periods using a formula that is chosen such that the calculated coefficient is closer to a preset theoretical coefficient only in normal operating conditions. Angular position of a camshaft is found based on the relation between the coefficients. An independent claim is also included for utilization of a method for determining an angular position of a camshaft of an internal combustion engine.
