The method involves taking an image of a lower surface (3) of a valve (1) by a photographic camera (4), processing images by a computer (5), and placing two marks on the surface. Set of positions of one of the marks is recorded related to each one of angular positions of a camshaft. The computer then establishes a variation curve of angular position of the valve based on the angular position of the camshaft controlling the valve. An independent claim is also included for a device for characterizing and measuring angular displacement of a unit of motor vehicle, implementing a valve rotation movement characterizing method.
