A C-clip (30) is received in the annular groove (231) of the lower end portion (23) of the outer periphery (25) of a gear wheel (20) and in the annular groove (131) of the inner periphery (132) of the hole (13) of a head (11) to hold the rotatable gear wheel in the head. The gear wheel with recessed teeth (21) formed on the outer periphery is mounted to the hole of the head. The head is extended in a handle (12). A web (17) is formed between the handle and the head. A cavity (14) is formed in the web in which a L-shape compartment (15) with an inner end communicating with the cavity and an outer end communicating to the external is also formed. A bridge (16) is formed in the web by the compartment. A pawl (40) with ratchet teeth (41) on one side for engaging with the teeth of the gear wheel is mounted in the cavity. A rotatable switch (50) with a turning piece (51) for manual operation and an actuating plate (52) extending from the turning piece is received in the outer end of the compartment. The switch is rotated between two positions to change the ratcheting direction of the gear wheel. A biasing unit (60) with a spring (62) and a peg (61) is mounted in a receiving hole (521) formed in the actuating plate of the switch. An independent claim is also included for a reversible ratchet type wrench.
