A circuit arrangement for protection of integrated circuit includes a protection circuit with thyristor structure and connected between an element to be protected and a reference potential. A control circuit is used for driving the protection circuit. The control circuit (TC;C1; R1,11-13) generates several control signals which drive an active element (T1,T2) of the protection circuit (SCR). An independent claim is included for a method of protecting an integrated semiconductor circuit.
