Compressible foundation liner for resistance to soil movement pressure

A ground fill material 1 for a foundation trench and a method of combating soil movement pressure comprising a compressible board 2 and a flexible sheet 3 partially bonded to and extending beyond the board to provide a flap 4 for anchoring to the ground above the trench so that in use the board is positioned against the trench wall prior to filling with concrete. The sheet preferably faces into the trench and covers the entire face of the board. It may be tear-resistant and comprise woven polyethylene or polypropylene. The sheet may extend in more than one direction from the board, such as a side edge to provide an overlap with adjacent boards. The board is preferably expanded polystyrene. Graduate markings may be provided on the sheet to indicate depth and width. The sheet may be bonded to adjacent boards to provide for corner installation. The flap may be anchored by weights or by fixing means 6 driven through it. The sheet and board may be further secured by means such as posts driven through it into the trench wall.
