Film-forming flexible collodion compositions can be improved by including oneor moretopically acceptable polymers in an amount sufficient to increase theresilience of thefilm formed. Suitable polymers include polyalkylenes and (meth)acrylate homo-orcopolymers. Preferred embodiments include isobutene-butene copolymer and/orpolymethyl methacrylate. The compositions can further include salicylic acidand atopically acceptable crystallization inhibitor in an amount sufficient tosuppress thecrystallization of dissolved salicylic acid from the composition. Suitablecrystallizationinhibitors include at least one mono- or polyester and/or ether. Preferredembodimentsinclude a mixture of ethyl lactate and castor oil, and ethyl lactate alone.Thecompositions preferably also contain a local anesthetic.
