A mathematical teaching aid on the basis of a table board game comprising a playing board (9) and playing stones (8) . Two kinds of bonus fields (3, 4; 5, 6) provided with mathematical signs and plain fields (11) without any mathematical signs are marked on the playing board (9) . Said aid further comprises sets of ten stones (8) each, which stones (8) are marked with numerals from 0 to 9 and are without any mathematical signs. In a method of performing calculation operations on a mathematical teaching aid at first the first player places a combination of two or more of his/her playing stones (8) on said playing board (9) into one of the permitted calculation operations. The next player attaches the next calculation operation to this initial calculation operation by one of the permitted steps.
