The backlight has a light source (50) with light-emitting diodes, where light beam that is propagated in all directions is transmitted by the diodes. The diodes have a chip (53), whose lower substrate is transparent, and two connecting wires (54) for connecting the chip and a printed circuit board (51). The board, chip and the wires are enclosed with a translucent layer (55) in such a manner that the chip is enclosed by a translucent material to arrange the chip in a suspended manner for illuminating the chip in all directions.
