PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To judge whether a head is in contact with a medium during a conveyance of the medium.;SOLUTION: This method for judging contact of a head comprises the steps of: allowing the head to form a first pattern on a medium while the medium is nipped by rollers on the upstream side of the head; allowing the head to form a second pattern on the medium while the medium is not nipped by them; and judging whether the head is in contact with the medium while the medium is not nipped by the rollers on the basis of the inclination of the second pattern with respect to the first pattern.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
