PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impact resistant reinforcing material giving a high-impact styrene resin having high impact strength unattainable by conventional techniques without deteriorating the properties (surface appearance, tensile strength, etc.) of a polystyrene and provide a high-impact reinforced polystyrene.;SOLUTION: The method for the production of the impact resistant reinforcing material comprises an impregnation step to impregnate (occlude) a monomer component containing 0-18 mass% vinyl cyanide compound and an aromatic vinyl compound in a rubbery polymer having a gel content of 40-98% and an average particle diameter of 100-550 nm and a polymerization step to perform the graft polymerization of 70-20 pts. mass of the monomer component to 30-80 pts. mass (solid basis) of the rubbery polymer in a manner to give a mass-average molecular weight of 50,000-200,000 using an oil-soluble thermally decomposable initiator having a 10-hr half-life temperature of 30-90°C.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
