PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-rigidity high-impact styrene resin. ;SOLUTION: An impact resistance enhancer is obtd. by impregnating 30-80 pts.wt. (solid basis) rubberlike polymer latex having a gel content of 90% or lower and an average particle size of 0.25-0.55μm with 70-20 pts.wt. monomer component comprising 3-18wt.% vinyl cyanide compd. and 97-82wt.% arom. vinyl compd. and grafting the monomer component onto the rubberlike polymer by using oil-sol. and water-sol. polymn. initiators. The enhancer enables a high- impact styrene resin having rigidity very higher than that of a conventional one to be produced. High-impact styrene resins having a variety of combinations of impact strength with rigidity can be produced by mechanically melt mixing the enhancer with a styrene resin at a variety of mixing ratios.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
