The invention relates to a nanoparticle-enhanced, inorganic-organic hybrid coating obtainable from alkoxysilane compounds through a sol-gel process and particularly useful as a coating for erosion-stressed structures of aircraft because of its high erosion resistance to water and sand. The coating according to the invention is notable for combining hardness and flexibility with excellent substrate adhesion.
