The array substrate has a gate (104) and a data (146) line crossing each other on a substrate (100) to define a pixel area, with an isolation layer (108) between the lines. A gate electrode (102) is extended of the gate line and a transistor, with an active layer (122). A buffer layer (126) has a source electrode (136) on the ohmic contact layer (124) which contacts the buffer layer, and a drain electrode (138) contacts another buffer layer, where the active layer is an island shaped on the gate electrode and in a boundary, which is defined by an extent of the gate electrode. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing an array substrate.
