The method involves determining target torque exerted on a steering wheel based on operating parameters of a motor vehicle, and determining results of the torque exerted on a mechanical linkage system. Assistance torque exerted on the mechanical linkage system is predicted to minimize the difference between the torque exerted on the steering wheel and determined target torque. The assistance torque is corrected based on the predicted torque. An electrical steering angle assisting unit is controlled based on the corrected assistance torque. An INDEPENDENT CALIM is also included for a system for controlling an electrical steering angle assisting unit.
