The method involves generating a hydraulic servo torque (Msh) and/or an electromechanical servo torque (Mse) by a servo device i.e. open-center-servo device, of a steering device. Hand steering torques (Mh, M'h) of the servo device are reduced by one of the servo torques, where one of the servo torques is adjusted based on a parameter e.g. angular speed, of a steering wheel angle by using a measuring and/or controlling and regulating device (1). A system volume flow is adjusted proportional to the speed, and an electromechanical substitution torque is determined based on the hand moments.
