The invention relates to a device (D), for the semantic analysis of documents, comprising a structural and semantic database (BD) and a document interpreter (ID) comprising i) an N-ary tree controller (GAN) for the construction of a structural N-ary tree from a decomposition of a document for analysis and an ordered sequence of verbal entities and structural and/or semantic constraints, said structural N-ary tree comprising a root node for a primary controlling verbal entity and structures formed from a subordinate secondary verbal entity related directly or indirectly to the root node by a link provided with at least one connecting GAN characteristic, a secondary subordinate verbal entity being able to itself become a controlling verbal entity and ii) a semantic tree controller (GAS) for determination of entities characterising object and activity types from the N-ary structural tree and the database (BD), activated by certain nodes of the N-ary tree in order to construct a semantic tree provided with principal nodes made up of categorizing entities for objects and activities and connected by semantic relationships from connectional characteristics of the N-ary tree and to which function attributes are associated for the functions of other nodes of the N-ary tree and the corresponding links thereof.
