The present invention provides a low-cost plunging consent universal joint having a reduced number of balls. The plunging constant velocity universal joint according to the present invention has a structure in which the number of balls is reduced to three to five. Inner and outer races are formed by cold forging finishing. Both shoulder portions (17) and (27) of track grooves (12) and (22) of the inner and outer races are smoothly connected to a spherical outer surface of the inner race and a cylindrical inner surface of the outer race, respectively, through convex R-shaped surface chamfers. A ball contact interval is 1.001 to 1.04 to reduce a surface pressure.
