The elastic coupling elements are appropriately profiled to allow radial expansion and contraction of the collet opening to accommodate turning operations over a wide range of workpiece nominal diameters while ensuring workpiece stability at high speed RPM. The collet has a predetermined elastic-to-solid cross-section ratio selected according to a threshold, which is the stability criterion.
