USING COLLETS IN MY LATHE

I don't have a taper turning attachment for my lathe. They are not an accessory that any of the UK importers list, although I know they are offered in the USA for similar lathes. I decided to find ways of turning the 5MT taper using the top slide. The following is a distillation of several methods that I tried out so you get the benefit of my experiments. I made my adaptors from pieces of 50mm diameter EN8 (080M40, AISI 1040) approx. 73mm long.
