A color gamut mapping method capable of improving color reproducibility is provided to minimize color difference that a person recognizes by adjusting a color angle before color gamut mapping in lightness and chroma planes considering a hue change that a person sensitively recognizes. Image data of input color gamut is converted into hue, chroma and lightness data(S2). A primary color angle of the input color gamut is adjusted according to an output color gamut, and color data is adjusted according to an adjusting amount of the primary color angle(S4). Lightness of an input color gamut boundary is varied considering an output color gamut boundary, and the lightness data is varied by a variation amount of lightness of the input color gamut boundary(S6). A focus which is a reference of color mapping is determined according to shape and location of input/output color gamut in a lightness and chroma coordinates(S8).
