PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove restriction to the permissible range of input voltage VIN127 in a dissipating clamp for a switching-regulator power supply.;SOLUTION: The method includes, changeover of power-supply input to change over power-supply input in an energy-transmitting element; regulation of power-supply output to make the regulation of power-supply output by changing over the power-supply input in the energy-transmitting element; voltage clamp to clamp the voltage in the energy-transmitting element to a clamp voltage; and change of the clamp voltage to change the clamp voltage according to the power-supply input. An inductive element is connected between the dissipating-clamp circuit and the output of an electric circuit. A switch is connected to the inductive element in series with it. The dissipating-clamp circuit is connected so as to provide the clamp voltage between both ends of the inductive element. The clamp voltage is provided by the dissipating-clamp circuit according to the state of input in the electric circuit; and the dissipating-clamp circuit is connected so as to maintain the voltage between both ends of the switch lower than the voltage limit of the switch.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
