The invention relates to the use of mesoprogestins, a new class of progesterone receptor modulators (PRMs), for the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment and prevention of benign hormone-dependent gynecological diseases: a) for the treatment of gynecological diseases such as endometriosis, uterine fibrotic disease b) for the prevention of dysfunctional uterine bleeding (metrorrhagia, menorrhagia) and dysmenorrhea. Mesoprogestins are compounds that have both agonist and antagonist activity against the progesterone receptor (PR) in vivo. They stabilize the function of PR at the intermediate agonist / antagonist level. Appropriate functional states cannot be reached by progestins or antiprogestins. The daily dose of mesoprogestin is 0.5-100 mg, preferably 5.0-50 mg, most preferably 10-25 mg. Preferred mesoprogestins according to the invention are J 867, J 912, J 956 and J 1042.
