PURPOSE: A collision avoidance device and a method are provided to avoid the collision of ships by estimated area where ships are collided with each other in encountering with each at short distance.;CONSTITUTION: A route control system(10) supplies a ship position, speed, and the information of a heading angle to a collision avoidance device. A auto steering gear(11) decides the progressive direction of the ship. The auto steering gear outputs steering angle information.
