The method involves writing information e.g. signature-information and user-data information, in a memory cell e.g. non-volatile memory cell, under predetermined writing-condition, and reading the information from the memory cell. A characteristic parameter of a part of the read path and/or a part of the write path is determined using the read information. An error detection and/or error compensation is realized during reading of the information from the memory cell, under consideration of the determined characteristics parameter. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for evaluating a write channel and/or read channel of a memory cell of an integrated circuit (2) an integrated circuit with a memory cell.
