The device has a transmitting element (1) for producing a position mark on a vehicle wheel (3), and a receiving element (2) for detecting the position mark produced on the wheel. A control unit evaluates the data from the receiving element. The control unit determines a track value based on the evaluated data. The position mark is produced on an inner side of the vehicle wheel, where the inner side is turned towards a vehicle longitudinal axis (A). The wheel comprises a tire and a rim, and two measuring points are generated on the tire and the rim with the transmitting element. An independent claim is also included for a method for track measurement of a vehicle.
