The method involves measuring connection points (3) and a connection area (2) of a bodyshell (2'). Target positions of the points in relation to the area are obtained. Actual positions of the points in relation to the area are detected. The actual positions are compared with the target positions. The deviations between actual and target positions are determined. The deviations are compensated by adapting a placing position for each connecting element in a rear light. The light is mounted at the points using the connecting element. An independent claim is also included for a rear light mounting device comprising an assembly robot.
