The invention relates to a method for the hydroconversion of heavy oil feedstocks, including a step comprising the slurry hydroconversion of the feedstock in at least one reactor containing a catalyst, allowing the recovery of metals in the unconverted residual fraction, in paritcular those used as catalysts. The method comprises a hydroconversion step, a gas/liquid separation step, at least one liquid/liquid extraction step, a combustion step, a metal extraction step and a step consisting in preparing catalytic solutions that are recycled in the hydroconversion step.
