A multi-point lock having an easy to installmodular drive mechanism for shootbolts located at thetop and bottom edges of a door in which the multi-pointlocking system is installed that requires onlyrelatively simple door preparation. The shootboltoperating mechanism is installed into a narrow groovecut into a lateral edge of a door which may be cutusing relatively simple tools in relatively quickfashion. The shootbolt actuating mechanisms are flatdriverails that are made of flat barstock that fitslidably entirely within the narrow groove defined inthe lateral edge of the door above and below themortise pocket.
