PURPOSE: A composition containing Berchemia racemosa var. magna extract and a cosmetic composition containing the same are provided to suppress tyrosinase activity and remove free radical. CONSTITUTION: A cosmetic composition for skin whitening contains Berchemia racemosa var. magna extract as an active ingredient. The extract is isolated using water, low alcohol of C1-C4, or mixture solvent thereof. The Berchemia racemosa var. magna extract includes 4-n-butylresorcinol of chemical formula 1, quercetin of chemical formula 2, or kaempferol of chemical formula 3. The cosmetic composition is manufactured in the form of a skin softener, astringent, massage cream, essence, pack, patch, or gel.
