The heater (1) has a support (2) for a drinking vessel e.g. cappuccino cup, and an electrical resistance heating element (3). The heating element and the support are spaced apart from each other. The vessel is heated by convective heat transfer through ambient air by the heating element. The heating element is arranged in a flow channel (40) in which a directed air stream is generated. The support is provided higher than the heating element. The support is provided with an aperture (20) for passage of heated air.
