The heater (2) has an electrical resistance heating element (4) i.e. positive temperature coefficient ceramic element, positioned in a motorvehicle such that heat from the heating element is transferred to airflow flowing into an interior of the motorvehicle. The heater is activated independent of an operation of an engine of the motorvehicle. A dual layer capacitor (14) e.g. ultracapacitor, supplies electrical energy to the heater. A control unit (16) adjusts a heating performance of the heater based on sensor signals, which are supplied from a sensor e.g. inner temperature sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for activating a heater for convectionally heating an interior of a motorvehicle.
