The method involves identifying defective elements, where a battery includes a set of rechargeable electric energy storage elements (30) connected in series. Electric connections respectively formed by the defective elements are short-circuited, where the storage elements of the battery are electrochemical elements with cylindrical, parallelepiped or plate shape. Replacing elements (46) are provided with an envelope conductive material for ensuring short-circuits between electrical contacts. An independent claim is also included for a rechargeable electric energy storage battery comprising a set of rechargeable electric energy storage elements.
