The gearbox (14) has two primary torque input shafts (31, 32) connected to an engine (12) of a motor vehicle. One of the primary shafts and a secondary torque output shaft (34) carry fixed pinions (36, 56) of a highest forward ratio gear of the gearbox, and the other primary shaft and the secondary shaft carry fixed pinions (41, 51) of lowest forward ratio gears of the gearbox, such that the highest ratio gear partially transmits the torque from the engine to the secondary shaft and the lowest ratio gears do not transmit the torque during partial gearshifts under torque of lowest gear ratio. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a transmission assembly for a motor vehicle (2) a method for controlling a power train.
