The device has a charging cable comprising a charging plug (1) for a vehicle-external charging source and a vehicle-side charging socket (2). A charging connection is established between the plug and the socket for charging a plug-in-vehicle at the source. A charging device has an electrical drive (3) i.e. electric motor, that is formed as a component of the vehicle. The drive moves the plug from an insertion position into a charging position to establish the charging connection. The plug has two electrical contacts i.e. pins, and the sleeve has two electrical poles i.e. wire spring contacts.
