The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of an acid, glycolic acid fermentation of origin having a calorimetric index less than or equal to 300 apha, preferably less than or equal to 200 apha, more preferably still less than or equal to 150 apha, comprises the following steps: clarify the fermentation medium containing the glycolates so as to obtain a solution of glycolates freed from its organic impurities which are insoluble, remove the impurities soluble organic solution of glycolates clarified with the aid of a technology chosen from the group consisting of the conventional electrodialysis and of the nanofiltration, before or after being converted, the solution of glycolates glycolic acid, free to distil the solution of glycolic acid, concentrated beforehand to a dry matter content of more than 60% by dry weight, preferably between 60 and 80% by dry weight, with the aid of a technology of distillation, allowing a residence time is very short, less than 5 min, preferably between 0 and 2 minutes, and to recover, glycolic acid and distilled.
