The photoelectric cell (100) has a layer sequence (110) that is configured for up-converting photon energy. A semiconductor layer (120) is located on the layer sequence. The semiconductor layer is configured to absorb incident photons (101) with an energy (Eph0) corresponding to the energy band gap (Eg) of the semiconductor layer. The layer sequence is adapted to increase the initial energy (Eph1) of the semiconductor layer. The layer sequence is configured to direct the photons with the output power (Eph2) towards the semiconductor layer.
