The vibration damper (1) has a damper tube filled with damping fluid (10), in which a piston rod (11) is movable to and fro. A fluid channel (19) is arranged in its length (L) and in its diameter (D) in such a way that a throttling effect is used at low temperatures of the damping fluid, when flowing through the fluid channel. The flow rate of the damping fluid is slowed down via the throttling effect in such a way that a separating piston (17) comes to bear against the low-noise bearing surfaces (23,24).
