Method for operating driver assistance device for motor vehicle, involves detecting distance of adjacent vehicles to motor vehicle, and displaying distance or warning by display device when distance falls below predetermined distance
The method involves orienting detection direction of environment sensors (2) of a driver assistance device in vehicle transverse direction. Distance (4) of adjacent vehicles (5) to a motor vehicle (1) is detected in a regular driving operation, where the vehicles are moved parallel to the motor vehicle with same speed. The distance or corresponding warning is displayed by a display device when the distance falls below a predetermined minimum distance (8). Active counter steering is introduced when the predetermined minimum distance to the adjacent vehicles fall below a predetermined measure. An independent claim is also included for a driver assistance device.
