The device has a sausage casing (1), in which a sausage is arranged. The sausage casing is made from a biological material. The sausage strand has a twisting unit (3) in an area between two sausages. A device (5) for generating a laser beam (4) is provided to cut the sausage strand in the twisting unit. The resulting ends (6) of the sausage casing are closed by welding the biological material.
