The equipment includes tools (10, 11) in relative motion, opening and closing together. Either or both are heated for welding or coagulation. When closed together, two welding locations are formed by their surfaces. The sausage strand with intended welding locations, is passed through. It is closed together at two successive locations. A cutter included, severs the casing between them. Preferred features: The welding region is formed by a working gap between the tools. Each such gap is so implemented, that its spacing increases away from the central region between the welding locations. One tool has a cutting edge working against a counter surface of the other, when closed together. Separation is performed by a variant cutting or parting tool. Welding regions are formed between wedge surfaces of the tools. Further geometric relationships are detailed, based on the foregoing principles. A channel (8) is constructed in a housing, into which the strand is laid, and in which at least one tool is provided. The channel has a convex base surface and/or convex side boundary surfaces.
