Axle torque control architecture for controlling power-split configuration type multi-mode powertrain system of vehicle, has hybrid controller including routine for determining hybrid engine torque command to achieve desired axle torque
The architecture has a transmission controller (25) including a control routine for selecting and effecting operation of passive transmission (20) in a preferred transmission gear. A hybrid controller is operatively connected to non-combustion torque machines (40), and includes a control routine for determining and executing torque commands for each non-combustion torque machine, and another control routine for determining a hybrid engine torque command to achieve desired axle torque in response to a propulsion axle torque command with the passive transmission that operates in preferred gear.
