A method for evaluating local buckling performance of asteel pipe that can evaluate whether a yield-plateau modelsteel pipe can be applied to a usage that requires highlocal buckling performance such as pipelines is provided. Aspecific solving means includes a first step of obtaining astress-strain relationship of a material having a yieldplateau in the stress-strain relationship; a second step ofdetermining the comparison of a starting strain of strain-hardening in the stress-strain relationship obtained in thefirst step and a critical strain of the steel pipe; and athird step of evaluating that the steel pipe has apossibility of being applied to a structure that requiresplastic design when the critical strain is determined to belarger than the starting strain of strain-hardening in thesecond step and evaluating that the steel pipe has nopossibility of being applied to a structure that requiresplastic design when the critical strain is determined to benot larger than the starting strain of strain-hardening inthe second step.
