A method for reforming high-temperature exhaust gas from a metallurgical furnace which comprises adding a reducing agent to the exhaust gas to reform the gas, wherein the addition of the reducing agent is initiated when the oxygen concentration of the exhaust gas reaches 1 vol% or below and the reforming reaction is completed when the temperature of the exhaust gas is 800°C or above; an apparatus for the process. The reducing agent is blown into the reforming system through a reducing agent blowing nozzle having a double pipe structure. Further, the invention provides a method for cooling exhaust gas from a metallurgical furnace, which comprises adding a reducing agent to high-temperature exhaust gas from a metallurgical furnace, causing endothermic reaction between the reducing agent and carbon dioxide contained in the exhaust gas, and cooling the exhaust gas itself by the endothermic reaction; and an apparatus for the process.
