PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for cleaving a strip-shaped glass film and a method for cleaning a strip-shaped glass film which are capable of controlling waviness from occurring in the region to be cleaved in a strip-shaped glass film, with at least one side (effective surface) of the strip-shaped glass film in a non-contact state.;SOLUTION: The device 1 for cleaving a strip-shaped glass film conveys a strip-shaped glass film 2 in the lengthwise direction while cleaving the strip-shaped glass film 2 along the conveyance direction by using thermal stress generated when applying localized heating and cooling to the heated region on the prescribed cleaving line along the conveyance direction of the strip-shaped glass film 2.
