The invention relates to a fence post provided with at least one latch (10) connected, on one side (14), to a wall (4) forming part of said post, and comprising a first, so-called receiving part (15) provided with at least one housing (12) for receiving a mesh or fencing wire, and a second, so-called manoeuvring part (16) for manoeuvring the latch. The latch (10) is arranged in a central position in a longitudinal recess made in a side (4) of the post.
