The method involves illuminating front surfaces (SF2) of a bundle (B2) of hollow fibers (F) using a test light source (TQ) that generates test light (TL). The light is detected by a test camera (TK) after diffuser reflection of the light at the front surfaces to generate a diffusion light image (DLB) of the front surfaces. Images (SR'') of front-side edge surfaces (SR) of the fibers are automatically detected and counted by image processing based on brightening of edge surfaces in the diffusion light image. The fibers are made of plastic e.g. polysulfone, polyurethane resin or polyurethane. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting interior of hollow fibers.
